Course Information

The Fitness Trainer Course from the Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST) is a professional program designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as fitness trainers. The course covers the fundamentals of personal training, program design, practical exercises, sports nutrition, and general fitness. It is designed to provide trainees with the scientific and practical expertise needed to improve performance and achieve results, whether working in fitness centers or pursuing a professional career in sports training. The course is suitable for all interested individuals and provides a certified diploma upon passing the exams.

Eligibility to Enroll

You may enroll in the course if you meet one of the following qualifications:

  1. Holder of an Assistant Fitness Trainer Certificate
  2. Student at a university, college, or institute of physical education and sports
  3. Documented practical experience in fitness training of at least two years
  4. High-level athlete with documented experience in a specific sport

Duration of Study

The Fitness Trainer Certificate Program consists of 174 training hours.
The program must be completed within a maximum of 45 days from the start date and consists of four stages, combining theoretical study, practical application, and final assessment:

1. Live Study – 56 hours
Lectures are delivered live (online) via Zoom, allowing direct interaction with instructors, questions, and live discussions.

2. Online Study – 74 hours

Reviewing theoretical content, educational materials, and training videos on the SAST platform

Completing chapter quizzes and the final theoretical exam via the platform

3. Practical Application – 40 hours
Trainees perform practical training under SAST supervision in an approved fitness center, in coordination with local gym management. The trainee acts as an assistant trainer, applying what they learned in real-life scenarios.

4. Final Practical Exam – 4 hours
Four hours are allocated for preparation and completion of the final practical exam to evaluate the trainee’s applied skills.

Exams and Passing Requirements

The course includes theoretical and practical assessments, with the following structure:

1. Theoretical Exams
All theoretical exams are conducted online via the SAST platform, using random questions from a question bank based on the course curriculum, with instant grading and immediate results.

Chapter Quizzes (Mandatory)

Students must pass a number of mandatory chapter quizzes before taking the final exam

  1. Each quiz contains up to 10 multiple-choice questions
  2. Exam time: 1 minute per question
  3. Passing grade: 80%
  4. Quizzes can be retaken an unlimited number of times
  5. The final theoretical exam cannot be taken until all quizzes are successfully completed

Final Theoretical Exam

  1. Students may take the final exam after successfully passing all mandatory quizzes
  2. Passing grade: 60%
  3. Exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions with four options each
  4. Duration: 50 minutes
  5. Students may attempt the exam twice
  6. Additional attempts are available for $50 per attempt
  7. The final practical exam can only be taken after passing the final theoretical exam

2. Practical Training Assessment

40 hours of practical training at a fitness center under direct supervision

Trainees must complete two forms: Training Approval Form and Performance Evaluation Form, submitted on the platform

Forms must be signed and stamped by the fitness center

The final practical exam cannot be taken until practical training is successfully completed

3. Final Practical Exam

  1. The exam involves a randomly selected training scenario
  2. The trainee receives the scenario description at the start of the exam via the SAST platform
  3. Exam is scheduled during the last two days of the course, coordinated with the instructor and academic supervisor
  4. Duration: 30 minutes in the fitness center

Exam Requirements:

  1. Prepare a training program with at least 10 exercises based on the assigned scenario
  2. Program includes instructions for performing each exercise with 10 repetitions using moderate load, emphasizing proper form and sequence
  3. Evaluation:
  4. Results: Pass (with feedback) or Fail (for major errors)
  5. Additional retake attempts available for $50 per attempt

Requirements to Enter the Practical Exam:

Must have successfully completed all previous theoretical and practical requirements

Final Grade Calculation

  1. Practical Exam: 50%
  2. Theoretical Exam: 25%
  3. Practical Application: 25%

Certificate of Completion
Upon completing the course and passing all exams, students receive a certified diploma sent via email and stored on their SAST profile. It is officially recognized by:

  1. Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST)
  2. Global Council of Sport Science (GCSS)
  3. International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE)
  4. Register of Exercise Professionals Tunisia (REPS Tunisia) – for Tunisian students
  5. International Confederation of Registers of Exercise Professionals (ICREPs) – for Tunisian students
  6. Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment (MFPE) – for Tunisian students

Stage Description
  1. 40 hours of practical training at a fitness center as a trainer, under the direct supervision of the center’s management.
  2. The training is conducted by completing two forms: the Training Approval Form and the Performance Evaluation Form, both available in the Exams section.
  3. After completing the training period, both forms must be uploaded to the Academy’s platform and must be signed and stamped by the fitness center where the training took place.
  4. The student cannot proceed to the final practical exam unless the practical training is successfully completed.
